  Hala Rachid

Ammoun Professor of Philosophy at the Lebanese University in Beirut and at the University of Balamand located at al-Koura North of Lebanon. Hala Rachid Ammoun has many publications on philosophical issues, the reasons behind the hindrance of Arab enlightenment, the problems of Salafi thought and its focus on Islamic Jihad, religious fanaticism and its negative influence on Arab-Islamic countries, the culture of death in the Arab world as well as many publications dealing with the critical situation in the Arab world.

Abdelilah Belkeziz

PhD in philosophy, lecturer in Philosophy at the University of Hassan II in Casablanca/Morocco. Kadhim Habib

Kadhim Habib was born in 1935 in Kerbela/Iraq, where he grew up and went to school. He was member of Iraqi opposition and is an economist, author and human rights activist. During the monarchy he was arrested and imprisoned from 1955 until his release in 1958, after that he was expelled from the country. In Berlin he studied economics: Master 1964, PhD 1968 und Dr. Sc. (postdoctoral lecturing qualification) 1973. Habib taught at the university in Iraq and Algier. Between 1970 and 1979 he was editor-in-chief of the Iraqi magazine al-Iqtisadi (Economist). Between 1975 and 1978 Habib was member of the High Council of Agriculture (ministry) of the Iraq. During the monarchy and Baath regime he suffered injustice, was arrested several times and tortured. After his release he was forced into early retirement in 1978 and had to leave the Iraq again. After a three-years-stay in Algeria, where he worked as university teacher for economics, K. Habib joined the Kurdish liberation movement “al-Ansar“ from 1981-1984 and 1987-1988 in North Iraq. He is member of Iraqi and Arab human rights organizations in Germany and member of Amnesty International. He is also a member of the trade union of Iraqi and Kurdish journalists and member of the Arab-German Institute for Social Research. Apart from having published many articles and studies on economical, social and political issues as well as human rights in Arabic and German, Kadhim Habib has published more than 25 books including: The Hour of Truth: Iraq’s Future Between Regime and Opposition, Beirut 1995; The Countries of the South: Problems and Perspective, Cairo 1996; Tragedy and Comedy in Contemporary Iraq, Beirut 2000; The Old Religion of the Yezidis went into Resistance in Bad Times: Globalization from an New Perspective, Baghdad 2006; Insight into the Liberation Movement of the Kurdish People in Kurdistan-Iraq, 2005; Post-Fascism in the Iraq, 2008. Since 1981 Kadhim Habib has lived with his family in Germany.

Ali Khalifa al-Kuwari

Ali al-Kuwari was born in 1941 in Qatar. 1966 Diploma (B. Comm.) in Business Administration, Damascus University. From 1966 to 1971 private business, Doha/Qatar. 1974 Ph.D., Faculty of Social Sciences, Durham University/England. Title of his thesis: “Oil Revenues of the Arabian Gulf Emirates: Pattern of Allocation and Impact on Economic Development”. From 1974 until retirement: Director of Marketing & Transportation Dept., Qatar General Petroleum Corporation. Beside this al-Kuwari was chairman, consultant and member of administration board in many trade companies (especially oil and gas) before he finally took leave in 1978 to concentrate on research. 1978 – 1980 Post Doctoral. Research Fellow, Centre for Middle Eastern Studies, Harvard University, Cambridge, Mass./USA. 1975 – 1982 lecturer in economics and social development at Qatar University, Doha. 1980 – 1982 Director of Development Studies Project for Arabian Gulf Countries, Qatar University. Certified Public Accountant of State of Qatar (since 1983) and 1983-1997 Head of Al Kuwari Public Accountants/Doha. Head of Arabian Bureau for Studies & Consultation; He is founder of “Waqf for Al-Shoura and Democracy Studies” in 1993. In 1993, too, he was trustee of the Centre for Arab Unity Studies in Beirut/Lebanon. Since 1995 he has been member of the Arab Organization for Human Rights in Cairo and was member of the founding committee for Arab Fund for NGO’s in 1998. 1998-1999 Chief, Technical Cooperation Divisions, UNITED NATION, Social and Economic Commission for Western Asia , Beirut; 2000 Chairman, Arabian Bureau For Studies & Consultation and Project, Doha. In 1991 together with Raghid as-Solh he founded the project for Democracy Studies in the Arab Counties and is Associate Co-ordinator since 1991. Ali al-Kuwari was Member of Consultative and editing Board for a couple of scientific magazines in the Gulf states mainly in the fields of social and economic development. He attended many international conferences, contributed to several projects and published many books and articles on politics, democracy, human rights, economics and development.

Abdallah Tourkmani

Abdallah Tourkmani was born in 1948 in Latakia/Syria. 1983 Diploma in Contemporary Arab History at the University of Algier, 2001 PhD in Contemporary Arab History at the University of Tunis. Tourkmani spent 23 years of his life teaching, six years as teacher for secondary school in Algier, five years as instructor for teachers in Tayarat/Algeria, four years as assistant professor at the University of Algier and eight years as teacher of History at the French private Institute Intercollege in Tunis. As a researcher Abdallah Tourkmani occupied several diverse positions: He was responsible for archives and studies of the PLO-magazine „Saut al-bilad“ for a duration of 3 years. He has cooperated with the Arab Institute for Human Rights and has been a member of its scientific committee since 1994. Since 1997, he cooperated with the Centre of Arab League and since 1999 with the „Tunisian Society for International Studies” and with the UNHCR (UN High Commissioner for Refugees) since 2000. He was involved in projects with ALECSO (Arab League Education, Culture and Science) starting 2004. And he joined Mu’assat at-Tammimi“ in 2005, a fund for scientific studies. Tourkmani has also worked on projects (since 2006) with „Centre for constitutional law and politics “ at the University of al-Qadi Ayyad in Marrakesh. He has published more than 5 books on contemporary history and politics, Communism, Islamic fanaticism, human rights, democracy and the problems of refugees in the Arab world and he was co-author of at least 10 more books. He has also published many articles in Arabic newspapers and Magazines and participated in many conferences. Since 1990 Tourkmani lives in Tunisia. He is married and has three children.
